What is Powerlifting?

Powerlifting is a strength sport that primarily focuses on three core lifts: the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Each of these lifts tests different muscle groups and requires specialized techniques to execute correctly and safely. At Ancient City Strength, we prioritize form, technique, and gradual progression, ensuring our members maximize their strength gains while minimizing the risk of injury.

The Big Three: Dive Deeper
  1. The Squat: Often dubbed the "king of all exercises", the squat is a full-body exercise that primarily targets the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes. With the barbell resting on your upper back, you'll descend into a seated position and explode up, all while maintaining a neutral spine and engaged core.

  2. The Bench Press: Not just a chest day favorite, the bench press is an integral part of powerlifting. Lying on a bench, you'll press the barbell up from chest level, engaging not just your pectorals but also your triceps, deltoids, and even your lats for stability.

  3. The Deadlift: The deadlift is a true test of raw strength. Beginning with the barbell on the ground, you'll engage everything from your traps down to your calves to lift it, finishing with a strong, upright posture. The deadlift tests and builds the posterior chain, ensuring balanced muscle development.
